About this stotra
The Sri Rama Kavacham (‘Armour of Rama’) is a protective hymn narrated by the sage Agastya to his disciple Sutikshna, found in the Manohara Kanda of the Ananda Ramayana. It opens with a meditation (dhyana) on Rama's beautiful form and then describes him in his fierce warrior aspect, surrounded by Lakshmana, Hanuman and the monkey army. The kavacham then systematically invokes Rama's protection for every part of the body — head to foot — using his many names and forms. The phalashruti declares that even the gravest sinners are purified by reading or hearing this kavacham with a focused mind.
