आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम्

Dedicated to Rama · 1 verse · Sanatana Shastras

About this stotra

Lord Rāma, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, is celebrated as the epitome of righteousness and virtue. His life, chronicled in the Rāmayana, illustrates ideal qualities as a son, husband, and ruler. Known for his unwavering adherence to dharma, courage, and compassion, Lord Rāma inspires devotion and a sense of duty.
This verse is a heartfelt prayer to Sri Rāma, a divine embodiment of dharma and compassion. Recognised for his role as the ideal king and a devoted son, Sri Rāma is revered as "āpadāmapahartāram" - the remover of all calamities and difficulties. This is paired with "dātāraṃ sarvasaṃpadām" - the bestower of all prosperity and wealth, showing the complete nature of Rāma's protection, both in removing negative circumstances and bestowing positive blessings.
The second line describes Rāma as "lokābhirāmam" - one who brings joy to all worlds or one who is beloved by all people, a play on his name (Rāma means one who gives joy).
The repetition of "bhūyo bhūyo" (again and again) in "namāmyaham" (I bow down) expresses the devotee's continuous and unstinting devotion. This repetitive bowing symbolises complete surrender and indicates that the act of remembering and worshipping Rāma is not a one-time event but a continuous process of devotion.
