About this stotra
The Hanuman Bajrang Baan is a powerful Awadhi hymn dedicated to Lord Hanuman, composed by Goswami Tulsidas. The name itself reveals its nature: bajrang (one with a body strong as a thunderbolt) and baan (arrow) — this stotram is conceived as a verbal weapon, an arrow of prayer released toward the divine protector. Written in the chaupai meter with framing dohas, it moves with urgency and intensity unlike gentler devotional compositions.
The hymn recounts Hanuman's legendary feats — his leap across the ocean, his outwitting of Surasa, his humbling of Lankini with a single blow — invoking these episodes not merely as praise but as reminders of his power to act swiftly for devotees in distress. The repeated refrain is one of urgent appeal: come quickly, delay not, grant relief immediately. This directness reflects the intimate relationship between devotee and deity in the bhakti tradition, where formality gives way to heartfelt demand.
Traditionally recited during times of fear, obstacles, or affliction by negative forces, the Bajrang Baan is considered especially potent for protection. The closing verses promise that those who recite it with firm faith and concentration shall find all hindrances removed, all purposes fulfilled, and freedom from physical and spiritual distress.
