Apaduddharaka Hanuman Stotram lyrics and meaning
॥ १ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW
Verse 1
ॐ अस्य श्री आपदुद्धारक हनुमत् स्तोत्र महामन्त्र कवचस्य, विभीषण ऋषिः, हनुमान् देवता, सर्वापदुद्धारक श्रीहनुमत्प्रसादेन मम सर्वापन्निवृत्त्यर्थे, सर्वकार्यानुकूल्य सिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ।
ōṃ asya śrī āpaduddhāraka hanumat stōtra mahāmantra kavachasya, vibhīṣaṇa ṛṣiḥ, hanumān dēvatā, sarvāpaduddhāraka śrīhanumatprasādēna mama sarvāpannivṛttyarthē, sarvakāryānukūlya siddhyarthē japē viniyōgaḥ ।
Dedication (Viniyoga): Of this Śrī Āpaduddhāraka Hanumat Stōtra Mahāmantra Kavacham: the seer is Vibhīṣaṇa; the deity is Hanumān. Its application is declared for the removal of all calamities and the accomplishment of all purposes by the grace of Śrī Hanumān.

Verse 2
ध्यानम्
वामे करे वैरिभिदं वहन्तं
शैलं परे शृङ्खलहारिटङ्कम् ।
दधानमच्छच्छवियज्ञसूत्रं
भजे ज्वलत्कुण्डलमाञ्जनेयम् ॥ 1 ॥
dhyānam
vāmē karē vairibhidaṃ vahantaṃ
śailaṃ parē śṛṅkhalahāriṭaṅkam ।
dadhānamachChachChaviyajñasūtraṃ
bhajē jvalatkuṇḍalamāñjanēyam ॥ 1 ॥
Meditation (Dhyānam): I worship Āñjanēya — who holds in his left hand a mountain that crushes enemies, in his other hand the chisel that breaks chains, who wears the spotless pure sacred thread, and whose earrings blaze with radiance. (1)

Verse 3
संवीतकौपीन मुदञ्चिताङ्गुलिं
समुज्ज्वलन्मौञ्जिमथोपवीतिनम् ।
सकुण्डलं लम्बिशिखासमावृतं
तमाञ्जनेयं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ 2 ॥
saṃvītakaupīna mudañchitāṅguḻiṃ
samujjvalanmauñjimathōpavītinam ।
sakuṇḍalaṃ lambiśikhāsamāvṛtaṃ
tamāñjanēyaṃ śaraṇaṃ prapadyē ॥ 2 ॥
Wearing the loin-cloth, fingers upraised, shining with the muñja-grass cord and the upavīta (sacred thread), adorned with earrings, with flowing tuft of hair — to that Āñjanēya I surrender as my refuge. (2)

Verse 4
आपन्नाखिललोकार्तिहारिणे श्रीहनूमते ।
अकस्मादागतोत्पात नाशनाय नमो नमः ॥ 3 ॥
āpannākhilalōkārtihāriṇē śrīhanūmatē ।
akasmādāgatōtpāta nāśanāya namō namaḥ ॥ 3 ॥
Salutation upon salutation to Śrī Hanumān, the remover of the suffering of all the afflicted of the world — to the destroyer of sudden calamities and terrors. (3)

Verse 5
सीतावियुक्तश्रीरामशोकदुःखभयापह ।
तापत्रितयसंहारिन् आञ्जनेय नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 4 ॥
sītāviyuktaśrīrāmaśōkaduḥkhabhayāpaha ।
tāpatritayasaṃhārin āñjanēya namō'stu tē ॥ 4 ॥
O remover of the sorrow, suffering, and fear of Śrī Rāma (caused by) his separation from Sītā — O destroyer of the triple affliction — O Āñjanēya, salutation to you. (4)

Verse 6
आधिव्याधि महामारी ग्रहपीडापहारिणे ।
प्राणापहर्त्रेदैत्यानां रामप्राणात्मने नमः ॥ 5 ॥
ādhivyādhi mahāmārī grahapīḍāpahāriṇē ।
prāṇāpahartrēdaityānāṃ rāmaprāṇātmanē namaḥ ॥ 5 ॥
Salutation to the remover of mental distress, diseases, great epidemics and planetary afflictions — to the one who seizes the very life-breath of the demons — to the very soul of Rāma's life. (5)

Verse 7
संसारसागरावर्त कर्तव्यभ्रान्तचेतसाम् ।
शरणागतमर्त्यानां शरण्याय नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 6 ॥
saṃsārasāgarāvarta kartavyabhrāntachētasām ।
śaraṇāgatamartyānāṃ śaraṇyāya namō'stu tē ॥ 6 ॥
Salutation to you, O refuge of those mortals who have come seeking shelter — wandering in confusion about their duty in the whirlpool of worldly existence. (6)

Verse 8
वज्रदेहाय कालाग्निरुद्रायाऽमिततेजसे ।
ब्रह्मास्त्रस्तम्भनायास्मै नमः श्रीरुद्रमूर्तये ॥ 7 ॥
vajradēhāya kālāgnirudrāyā'mitatējasē ।
brahmāstrastambhanāyāsmai namaḥ śrīrudramūrtayē ॥ 7 ॥
Salutation to the one of diamond body, who is the fire of dissolution to the Rudra of all time, of immeasurable splendor — to this form of Rudra who paralyzed the Brahmāstra. (7)

Verse 9
रामेष्टं करुणापूर्णं हनूमन्तं भयापहम् ।
शत्रुनाशकरं भीमं सर्वाभीष्टप्रदायकम् ॥ 8 ॥
rāmēṣṭaṃ karuṇāpūrṇaṃ hanūmantaṃ bhayāpaham ।
śatrunāśakaraṃ bhīmaṃ sarvābhīṣṭapradāyakam ॥ 8 ॥
The beloved of Rāma, full of compassion, Hanumān the remover of fear — the destroyer of enemies, the fierce one, the fulfiller of all desires — (8)

Verse 10
कारागृहे प्रयाणे वा सङ्ग्रामे शत्रुसङ्कटे ।
जले स्थले तथाऽऽकाशे वाहनेषु चतुष्पथे ॥ 9 ॥
kārāgṛhē prayāṇē vā saṅgrāmē śatrusaṅkaṭē ।
jalē sthalē tathā''kāśē vāhanēṣu chatuṣpathē ॥ 9 ॥
— in prison or on a journey, in battle, in the danger of enemies — in water, on land, in the sky, in vehicles, at crossroads — (9)

Verse 11
गजसिंह महाव्याघ्र चोर भीषण कानने ।
ये स्मरन्ति हनूमन्तं तेषां नास्ति विपत् क्वचित् ॥ 10 ॥
gajasiṃha mahāvyāghra chōra bhīṣaṇa kānanē ।
yē smaranti hanūmantaṃ tēṣāṃ nāsti vipat kvachit ॥ 10 ॥
— wherever those who remember Hanumān amid terrible forests of elephants, lions, great tigers and fearsome thieves — for them calamity exists nowhere. (10)

Verse 12
सर्ववानरमुख्यानां प्राणभूतात्मने नमः ।
शरण्याय वरेण्याय वायुपुत्राय ते नमः ॥ 11 ॥
sarvavānaramukhyānāṃ prāṇabhūtātmanē namaḥ ।
śaraṇyāya varēṇyāya vāyuputrāya tē namaḥ ॥ 11 ॥
Salutation to the one who is the very life and soul of all the chief monkeys — to the refuge, to the most worthy — salutation to you, O son of Vāyu. (11)

Verse 13
प्रदोषे वा प्रभाते वा ये स्मरन्त्यञ्जनासुतम् ।
अर्थसिद्धिं जयं कीर्तिं प्राप्नुवन्ति न संशयः ॥ 12 ॥
pradōṣē vā prabhātē vā yē smarantyañjanāsutam ।
arthasiddhiṃ jayaṃ kīrtiṃ prāpnuvanti na saṃśayaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
Those who remember the son of Añjanā at evening or at dawn — they attain the accomplishment of their purpose, victory, and renown — without doubt. (12)

Verse 14
जप्त्वा स्तोत्रमिदं मन्त्रं प्रतिवारं पठेन्नरः ।
राजस्थाने सभास्थाने प्राप्ते वादे लभेज्जयम् ॥ 13 ॥
japtvā stōtramidaṃ mantraṃ prativāraṃ paṭhēnnaraḥ ।
rājasthānē sabhāsthānē prāptē vādē labhējjayam ॥ 13 ॥
The person who recites this stotram-mantra each time — in the royal court, in an assembly, when a debate arises — attains victory. (13)
॥ १५ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW
Verse 15
विभीषणकृतं स्तोत्रं यः पठेत् प्रयतो नरः ।
सर्वापद्भ्यो विमुच्येत नाऽत्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ 14 ॥
vibhīṣaṇakṛtaṃ stōtraṃ yaḥ paṭhēt prayatō naraḥ ।
sarvāpadbhyō vimuchyēta nā'tra kāryā vichāraṇā ॥ 14 ॥
The devout person who recites this stotram composed by Vibhīṣaṇa is freed from all calamities — there is no need to deliberate otherwise. (14)

Verse 16
मन्त्रः ।
मर्कटेश महोत्साह सर्वशोकनिवारक ।
शत्रून् संहर मां रक्ष श्रियं दापय भो हरे ॥ 15
mantraḥ ।
markaṭēśa mahōtsāha sarvaśōkanivāraka ।
śatrūn saṃhara māṃ rakṣa śriyaṃ dāpaya bhō harē ॥ 15
Mantra: O Lord of monkeys, O greatly enthusiastic one, O remover of all sorrow — slay my enemies, protect me, O Hari, and grant me prosperity. (15)

Verse 17
इति विभीषणकृतं सर्वापदुद्धारक श्रीहनुमत् स्तोत्रम् ॥
iti vibhīṣaṇakṛtaṃ sarvāpaduddhāraka śrīhanumat stōtram ॥
Thus ends the Sarvāpaduddhāraka Śrī Hanumat Stotram composed by Vibhīṣaṇa.
