सोमनाथं वैद्यनाथं धन्वंतरिमधाश्विनौ

Dedicated to Om · 1 verse · Sanatana Shastras

About this stotra

This shloka emphasises the power of remembering divine forms of healing and protection. It acknowledges specific deities associated with health and well-being: Lord Somanātha as a comforting presence, Lord Vaidyanātha as the ultimate healer, Dhanvantari as the harbinger of Ayurvedic wisdom, and the Ashvinis as skilled healers of both humans and Gods. Chanting this verse with faith each morning, while remembering or meditating on these deities/healers strengthens one's connection with these divine forms, prevents illness and maintains health. Diseases or afflictions (vyādhiḥ) and physical contact with them (sparśa) will not arise as a result.
We often take our body's health for granted, not appreciating the miraculous complexity of its functioning until something goes wrong. At any given moment, trillions of cells in our immune system are working tirelessly to fight off harmful pathogens, viruses and bacteria that could compromise our health. What appears as chaos at the microscopic level - countless battles between cells and invaders - manifests as perfect harmony at the macro level when our body is hale and healthy. Yet despite this remarkable defence system, our body's well-being is incredibly fragile. Even minor ailments like a headache or fever can completely disrupt our daily life and peace of mind. Something as tiny as a speck of dust in our eye commands our complete attention until it's resolved - we simply cannot ignore it. Consider then the more serious conditions, life-threatening diseases, or unexpected accidents that can change everything in an instant. What will happen to this body, how it will happen - whether through genetics or external events - and when it will happen... everything is beyond our direct control. This body, with its intricate systems and delicate balance, is truly a precious gift. Recognising this, expressing gratitude for our health and praying for its continued well-being isn't just an act of devotion – it is an acknowledgement of this profound truth.
