About this stotra

The purpose of this Shanti mantra is to prepare oneself before studying or learning spiritual knowledge, particularly before reading the Upanishads (ancient Indian spiritual texts). The seeker sincerely asks that all parts of their being — their physical organs, limbs, speech, prana (vital air), strength, and all sense organs — become efficient enough to perform their respective duties properly and without any hindrance to the main objective, which is to truly grasp and learn what they are about to study.
The mantra then focuses on Brahman (the ultimate Reality) and the teachings of the Upanishads. When it says "sarvam brahmopaniṣadam", it is expressing that everything is Brahman, as propounded and abundantly made clear in the Upanishads.
As the mantra progresses, there is a request for the non-rejection of Brahman. "Mā’ham brahma nirākuryām" means "May I not reject Brahman." The subsequent phrase "mā mā brahma nirākarod anirākaraṇamastvanirākaraṇaṃ me'stu" is a repeated plea for inseparation between the seeker and Brahman, the Reality that they wish to realize or recognize. It is essentially a prayer for the devotee to never be ignorant of or deny the ultimate truth of Brahman.
The prayer deepens with the plea: "May all the virtues (as described in the Upanishads) of those wise men who dwell in the Ātman (or the Supreme Self) become part of me and reside in me."
Thus, we come to understand that this is a humble prayer asking for the physical, mental, and spiritual strength to absorb and live by the teachings of the Upanishads. A prayer that the teachings of the Upanishads be realized and internalized in their very being.

oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ

Oṃ! May my organs and limbs, my speech, my breath, my strength and my sense organs like the ear, the eyes etc., be well nourished.
Everything is Brahman as propounded clearly in the Upanishads.
May I never deny Brahman. May Brahman never deny me. Let there be no denial at all (of Brahman). Let there be no denial for me (of Brahman).
May I also pray that the virtues (as described in the Upanishads) of those wise men who dwell in the Ātma (or the Soul) become part of me and reside in me.
Oṃ, peace, peace, peace.
