About this stotra
The Sūrya Sūktam is a Vedic hymn drawn from the Ṛgveda (10.037), dedicated to Sūrya, the Sun deity who embodies cosmic light, truth, and divine vision. The hymn opens by honoring Sūrya as the eye of Mitra and Varuṇa—the great gods of covenant and cosmic order—and invites devotees to worship this radiant son of the heavens who sees all from afar.
The verses celebrate Sūrya's daily rising as a symbol of eternal truth (ṛtam) that pervades all creation. As the hymn declares, he rises each day without fail, entering into all things, sustaining the waters and the rhythm of existence itself. The concluding verses include a prayer for forgiveness, acknowledging human failings committed through speech or mind, and asking the Vasus to place such transgressions upon those who wish ill.
Recited as part of sandhyāvandana and solar worship traditions, the Sūrya Sūktam invokes the blessings of health, clarity of vision, and protection from negativity through the grace of the all-seeing Sun.

Salutation to the all-seeing eye of Mitra and Varuṇa; worship that great deity — the Truth. Praise Sūrya, the far-seer, born of the gods, the bright banner, the son of heaven. (1)

May that Truth protect me on all sides, wherever heaven and earth are spread wide, wherever the days unfold. Everything that moves enters into something else; the waters flow everywhere, and everywhere Sūrya rises. (2)

No godless person abides near you, O Sun, as you drive across the sky with your fleet-winged horses. One realm follows after another; you travel onward, O Sūrya, with the light that shines through the waters. (3)
