शनैश्चराय शान्ताय सर्वाभीष्टप्रदायिने
शनैश्चराय शान्ताय सर्वाभीष्टप्रदायिने ।
शरण्याय वरेण्याय सर्वेशाय नमो नमः ॥ 1 ॥
śanaiścharāya śāntāya sarvābhīṣṭapradāyinē ।
śaraṇyāya varēṇyāya sarvēśāya namō namaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
Salutation upon salutation to Śanaiścara (the slow-moving / Saturn), to the peaceful one, to the bestower of all desires; to the refuge, to the most excellent, to the lord of all. (1)
सौम्याय सुरवन्द्याय सुरलोकविहारिणे ।
सुखासनोपविष्टाय सुन्दराय नमो नमः ॥ 2 ॥
saumyāya suravandyāya suralōkavihāriṇē ।
sukhāsanōpaviṣṭāya sundarāya namō namaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
Salutation to the gentle one, to the one saluted by the gods, to the one who wanders in the realm of the gods; to the one seated on a comfortable throne, to the beautiful one. (2)
घनाय घनरूपाय घनाभरणधारिणे ।
घनसारविलेपाय खद्योताय नमो नमः ॥ 3 ॥
ghanāya ghanarūpāya ghanābharaṇadhāriṇē ।
ghanasāravilēpāya khadyōtāya namō namaḥ ॥ 3 ॥
Salutation to the dense one (Ghana), to the one of dense form, to the one bearing dense (cloud-dark) ornaments; to the one anointed with camphor fragrance (ghanasāra), to the luminous one. (3)
मन्दाय मन्दचेष्टाय महनीयगुणात्मने ।
मर्त्यपावनपादाय महेशाय नमो नमः ॥ 4 ॥
mandāya mandachēṣṭāya mahanīyaguṇātmanē ।
martyapāvanapādāya mahēśāya namō namaḥ ॥ 4 ॥
Salutation to the slow one (Manda), to the one of slow movements, to the one whose nature is of praiseworthy virtues; to the one whose feet purify mortals, to the great lord. (4)
छायापुत्राय शर्वाय शरतूणीरधारिणे ।
चरस्थिरस्वभावाय चञ्चलाय नमो नमः ॥ 5 ॥
Chāyāputrāya śarvāya śaratūṇīradhāriṇē ।
charasthirasvabhāvāya chañchalāya namō namaḥ ॥ 5 ॥
Salutation to the son of Chāyā (shadow), to Śarva (the archer), to the one holding autumn arrows in a quiver; to the one of both moving and stationary natures, to the restless one. (5)
नीलवर्णाय नित्याय नीलाञ्जननिभाय च ।
नीलाम्बरविभूषाय निश्चलाय नमो नमः ॥ 6 ॥
nīlavarṇāya nityāya nīlāñjananibhāya cha ।
nīlāmbaravibhūṣāya niśchalāya namō namaḥ ॥ 6 ॥
Salutation to the dark-hued one, to the eternal one, to the one resembling dark collyrium; to the one adorned with dark-blue robes, to the unmoving one. (6)
वेद्याय विधिरूपाय विरोधाधारभूमये ।
भेदास्पदस्वभावाय वज्रदेहाय ते नमः ॥ 7 ॥
vēdyāya vidhirūpāya virōdhādhārabhūmayē ।
bhēdāspadasvabhāvāya vajradēhāya tē namaḥ ॥ 7 ॥
Salutation to the one worth knowing, to the one of ordained form (the embodiment of fate), to the ground supporting all opposition; to the one whose nature is the basis of all distinctions, to the one of diamond body. (7)
वैराग्यदाय वीराय वीतरोगभयाय च ।
विपत्परम्परेशाय विश्ववन्द्याय ते नमः ॥ 8 ॥
vairāgyadāya vīrāya vītarōgabhayāya cha ।
vipatparamparēśāya viśvavandyāya tē namaḥ ॥ 8 ॥
Salutation to the giver of dispassion, to the heroic one, to the one free from disease and fear; to the lord of successive calamities, to the one saluted by the universe. (8)
गृध्नवाहाय गूढाय कूर्माङ्गाय कुरूपिणे ।
कुत्सिताय गुणाढ्याय गोचराय नमो नमः ॥ 9 ॥
gṛdhnavāhāya gūḍhāya kūrmāṅgāya kurūpiṇē ।
kutsitāya guṇāḍhyāya gōcharāya namō namaḥ ॥ 9 ॥
Salutation to the one riding a vulture, to the mysterious one, to the one with tortoise-like limbs, to the one of coarse form; to the one considered contemptible, yet rich in virtues, and accessible to all. (9)
अविद्यामूलनाशाय विद्याऽविद्यास्वरूपिणे ।
आयुष्यकारणायाऽऽपदुद्धर्त्रे च नमो नमः ॥ 10 ॥
avidyāmūlanāśāya vidyā'vidyāsvarūpiṇē ।
āyuṣyakāraṇāyā''paduddhartrē cha namō namaḥ ॥ 10 ॥
Salutation to the destroyer of the root of ignorance, to the one who is both knowledge and ignorance in form; to the cause of longevity, to the uplifter from calamity. (10)
विष्णुभक्ताय वशिने विविधागमवेदिने ।
विधिस्तुत्याय वन्द्याय विरूपाक्षाय ते नमः ॥ 11 ॥
viṣṇubhaktāya vaśinē vividhāgamavēdinē ।
vidhistutyāya vandyāya virūpākṣāya tē namaḥ ॥ 11 ॥
Salutation to the devotee of Viṣṇu, to the self-controlled one, to the knower of many sacred sciences; to the one praised by Brahmā, to the saluted one, to Virūpākṣa (of uncommon eyes). (11)
वरिष्ठाय गरिष्ठाय वज्राङ्कुशधराय च ।
वरदाऽभयहस्ताय वामनाय नमो नमः ॥ 12 ॥
variṣṭhāya gariṣṭhāya vajrāṅkuśadharāya cha ।
varadā'bhayahastāya vāmanāya namō namaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
Salutation to the most excellent, to the most weighty, to the one bearing a diamond goad; to the one whose hands bestow boons and fearlessness, to the dwarfish one. (12)
ज्येष्ठापत्नीसमेताय श्रेष्ठाय मितभाषिणे ।
कष्टौघनाशकर्याय पुष्टिदाय नमो नमः ॥ 13 ॥
jyēṣṭhāpatnīsamētāya śrēṣṭhāya mitabhāṣiṇē ।
kaṣṭaughanāśakaryāya puṣṭidāya namō namaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
Salutation to the one accompanied by his wife Jyeṣṭhā, to the most excellent, to the one of few words; to the one who disperses the flood of hardships, to the giver of nourishment. (13)
स्तुत्याय स्तोत्रगम्याय भक्तिवश्याय भानवे ।
भानुपुत्राय भव्याय पावनाय नमो नमः ॥ 14 ॥
stutyāya stōtragamyāya bhaktivaśyāya bhānavē ।
bhānuputrāya bhavyāya pāvanāya namō namaḥ ॥ 14 ॥
Salutation to the praise-worthy, to the one attained through hymns, to the one won by devotion, to Bhānu; to the son of Bhānu, to the auspicious one, to the purifier. (14)
धनुर्मण्डलसंस्थाय धनदाय धनुष्मते ।
तनुप्रकाशदेहाय तामसाय नमो नमः ॥ 15 ॥
dhanurmaṇḍalasaṃsthāya dhanadāya dhanuṣmatē ।
tanuprakāśadēhāya tāmasāya namō namaḥ ॥ 15 ॥
Salutation to the one established in the arc of Dhanus (Sagittarius), to the giver of wealth, to the bow-bearer; to the one of subtly luminous body, to the dark one (Tāmasa). (15)
अशेषजनवन्द्याय विशेषफलदायिने ।
वशीकृतजनेशाय पशूनां पतये नमः ॥ 16 ॥
aśēṣajanavandyāya viśēṣaphaladāyinē ।
vaśīkṛtajanēśāya paśūnāṃ patayē namaḥ ॥ 16 ॥
Salutation to the one saluted by all people, to the giver of special fruits; to the lord who has all people under his sway, to the lord of all creatures. (16)
खेचराय खगेशाय घननीलाम्बराय च ।
काठिन्यमानसायाऽऽर्यगणस्तुत्याय ते नमः ॥ 17 ॥
khēcharāya khagēśāya ghananīlāmbarāya cha ।
kāṭhinyamānasāyā''ryagaṇastutyāya tē namaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
Salutation to the sky-mover, to the lord of the sky-goers, to the one clad in dense dark-blue robes; to the one of firm mind, to the one praised by the noble. (17)
नीलच्छत्राय नित्याय निर्गुणाय गुणात्मने ।
निरामयाय निन्द्याय वन्दनीयाय ते नमः ॥ 18 ॥
nīlachChatrāya nityāya nirguṇāya guṇātmanē ।
nirāmayāya nindyāya vandanīyāya tē namaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
Salutation to the one with a dark-blue parasol, to the eternal one, to the one beyond qualities yet the soul of all qualities; to the one free from disease, to the one truly worthy of salutation. (18)
धीराय दिव्यदेहाय दीनार्तिहरणाय च ।
दैन्यनाशकरायाऽऽर्यजनगण्याय ते नमः ॥ 19 ॥
dhīrāya divyadēhāya dīnārtiharaṇāya cha ।
dainyanāśakarāyā''ryajanagaṇyāya tē namaḥ ॥ 19 ॥
Salutation to the steadfast one, to the one of divine body, to the remover of the affliction of the poor; to the destroyer of wretchedness, to the one counted among the noble. (19)
क्रूराय क्रूरचेष्टाय कामक्रोधकराय च ।
कलत्रपुत्रशत्रुत्वकारणाय नमो नमः ॥ 20 ॥
krūrāya krūrachēṣṭāya kāmakrōdhakarāya cha ।
kaḻatraputraśatrutvakāraṇāya namō namaḥ ॥ 20 ॥
Salutation to the fierce one, to the one of fierce deeds, to the one who stirs up desire and anger; to the one who is the cause of enmity between spouses and children. (20)
परिपोषितभक्ताय परभीतिहराय च ।
भक्तसङ्घमनोऽभीष्टफलदाय नमो नमः ॥ 21 ॥
paripōṣitabhaktāya parabhītiharāya cha ।
bhaktasaṅghamanō'bhīṣṭaphaladāya namō namaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
Salutation to the one who fully nourishes his devotees, to the remover of all fear; to the one who grants to his assembled devotees all the fruits their hearts desire. (21)
इत्थं शनैश्चरायेदं नाम्नामष्टोत्तरं शतम् ।
प्रत्यहं प्रजपन्मर्त्यो दीर्घमायुरवाप्नुयात् ॥ 22 ॥
itthaṃ śanaiścharāyēdaṃ nāmnāmaṣṭōttaraṃ śatam ।
pratyahaṃ prajapanmartyō dīrghamāyuravāpnuyāt ॥ 22 ॥
Thus [have been recited] these one hundred and eight names of Śanaiścara. A mortal who recites them every day shall attain a long life.
इति श्री शनि अष्टोत्तरशतनाम स्तोत्रम् ।
iti śrī śani aṣṭōttaraśatanāma stōtram ।
