गुरुर्गुणवरो गोप्ता गोचरो गोपतिप्रियः
गुरुर्गुणवरो गोप्ता गोचरो गोपतिप्रियः ।
गुणी गुणवतां श्रेष्ठो गुरूणां गुरुरव्ययः ॥ 1 ॥
gururguṇavarō gōptā gōcharō gōpatipriyaḥ ।
guṇī guṇavatāṃ śrēṣṭhō gurūṇāṃ gururavyayaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
Guru (the preceptor), Guṇavara (chief among the virtuous), Goptā (the protector), Gocara (accessible), Gopatipriya (beloved of the lord of cows / Viṣṇu), Guṇī (virtuous), Guṇavatāṃ Śreṣṭha (the best among the virtuous), Gurūṇāṃ Guru (preceptor of preceptors), Avyaya (imperishable). (1)
जेता जयन्तो जयदो जीवोऽनन्तो जयावहः ।
आङ्गीरसोऽध्वरासक्तो विविक्तोऽध्वरकृत्परः ॥ 2 ॥
jētā jayantō jayadō jīvō'nantō jayāvahaḥ ।
āṅgīrasō'dhvarāsaktō viviktō'dhvarakṛtparaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
Jetā (the conqueror), Jayanta (ever victorious), Jayada (bestower of victory), Jīva (the living one), Ananta (endless), Jayāvaha (bringer of victory), Āṅgīrasa (son of Aṅgiras), Adhvarāsakta (devoted to sacrifice), Vivikta (discerning), Adhvarakṛtpara (foremost in performing sacrifice). (2)
वाचस्पतिर्वशी वश्यो वरिष्ठो वाग्विचक्षणः ।
चित्तशुद्धिकरः श्रीमान् चैत्रः चित्रशिखण्डिजः ॥ 3 ॥
vāchaspatirvaśī vaśyō variṣṭhō vāgvichakṣaṇaḥ ।
chittaśuddhikaraḥ śrīmān chaitraḥ chitraśikhaṇḍijaḥ ॥ 3 ॥
Vācaspati (lord of speech), Vaśī (self-controlled), Vaśya (amenable), Variṣṭha (the most excellent), Vāgvichakṣaṇa (discerning in speech), Cittaśuddhikara (purifier of the mind), Śrīmān (the auspicious), Caitra (of the spring season), Chitraśikhaṇḍija (son of fire). (3)
बृहद्रथो बृहद्भानुर्बृहस्पतिरभीष्टदः ।
सुराचार्यः सुराराध्यः सुरकार्यहितङ्करः ॥ 4 ॥
bṛhadrathō bṛhadbhānurbṛhaspatirabhīṣṭadaḥ ।
surāchāryaḥ surārādhyaḥ surakāryahitaṅkaraḥ ॥ 4 ॥
Bṛhadratha (the great charioteer), Bṛhadbhānu (of great radiance), Bṛhaspati (lord of prayer), Abhīṣṭada (giver of all desires), Surācārya (preceptor of the gods), Surārādhya (worshipped by the gods), Surakāryahitaṅkara (doer of good deeds for the gods). (4)
गीर्वाणपोषको धन्यो गीष्पतिर्गिरिशोऽनघः ।
धीवरो धिषणो दिव्यभूषणो देवपूजितः ॥ 5 ॥
gīrvāṇapōṣakō dhanyō gīṣpatirgiriśō'naghaḥ ।
dhīvarō dhiṣaṇō divyabhūṣaṇō dēvapūjitaḥ ॥ 5 ॥
Gīrvāṇapōṣaka (nourisher of the gods), Dhanya (blessed), Gīṣpati (lord of sacred speech), Giriśa (Śiva-like), Anagha (sinless), Dhīvara (of superior intellect), Dhiṣaṇa (the intelligent), Divyabhūṣaṇa (adorned with divine ornaments), Devapūjita (worshipped by the gods). (5)
धनुर्धरो दैत्यहन्ता दयासारो दयाकरः ।
दारिद्र्यनाशको धन्यो दक्षिणायनसम्भवः ॥ 6 ॥
dhanurdharō daityahantā dayāsārō dayākaraḥ ।
dāridryanāśakō dhanyō dakṣiṇāyanasambhavaḥ ॥ 6 ॥
Dhanudhara (bearer of the bow), Daityahantā (destroyer of demons), Dayāsāra (essence of compassion), Dayākara (compassionate), Dāridryanāśaka (destroyer of poverty), Dhanya (blessed), Dakṣiṇāyanasambhava (born in the southern solstice). (6)
धनुर्मीनाधिपो देवो धनुर्बाणधरो हरिः ।
आङ्गीरसाब्जसञ्जातः आङ्गीरसकुलोद्भवः ॥ 7 ॥
dhanurmīnādhipō dēvō dhanurbāṇadharō hariḥ ।
āṅgīrasābjasañjātaḥ āṅgīrasakulōdbhavaḥ ॥ 7 ॥
Dhanumīnādhipa (lord of Sagittarius and Pisces), Deva (the divine), Dhanurbāṇadhara (holding bow and arrow), Hari (the remover), Āṅgīrasābjasañjāta (born from the lotus of Aṅgiras), Āṅgirasakulōdbhava (of the lineage of Aṅgiras). (7)
सिन्धुदेशाधिपो धीमान् स्वर्णवर्णश्चतुर्भुजः ।
हेमाङ्गदो हेमवपुर्हेमभूषणभूषितः ॥ 8 ॥
sindhudēśādhipō dhīmān svarṇavarṇaśchaturbhujaḥ ।
hēmāṅgadō hēmavapurhēmabhūṣaṇabhūṣitaḥ ॥ 8 ॥
Sindhudeśādhipa (lord of the Sindhu region), Dhīmān (wise), Svarṇavarṇa (of golden hue), Chaturbhuja (four-armed), Hemāṅgada (wearing golden armlets), Hemavapu (of golden body), Hemabhūṣaṇabhūṣita (adorned with golden ornaments). (8)
पुष्यनाथः पुष्यरागमणिमण्डलमण्डितः ।
काशपुष्पसमानाभः कलिदोषनिवारकः ॥ 9 ॥
puṣyanāthaḥ puṣyarāgamaṇimaṇḍalamaṇḍitaḥ ।
kāśapuṣpasamānābhaḥ kalidōṣanivārakaḥ ॥ 9 ॥
Puṣyanātha (lord of the Puṣya nakṣatra), Puṣyarāgamaṇimaṇḍalamaṇḍita (adorned with a ring of topaz gems), Kāśapuṣpasamānābha (of the lustre of the kāśa flower), Kalidoṣanivāraka (remover of the flaws of the Kali age). (9)
इन्द्रादिदेवोदेवेशो देवताभीष्टदायकः ।
असमानबलः सत्त्वगुणसम्पद्विभासुरः ॥ 10 ॥
indrādidēvōdēvēśō dēvatābhīṣṭadāyakaḥ ।
asamānabalaḥ sattvaguṇasampadvibhāsuraḥ ॥ 10 ॥
Indrādideva (supreme deity beginning with Indra), Devéśa (lord of the gods), Devatābhīṣṭadāyaka (fulfiller of the desires of the deities), Asamānabala (of incomparable strength), Sattvaguṇasampadvibhāsura (brilliant with the wealth of sattva). (10)
भूसुराभीष्टदो भूरियशः पुण्यविवर्धनः ।
धर्मरूपो धनाध्यक्षो धनदो धर्मपालनः ॥ 11 ॥
bhūsurābhīṣṭadō bhūriyaśaḥ puṇyavivardhanaḥ ।
dharmarūpō dhanādhyakṣō dhanadō dharmapālanaḥ ॥ 11 ॥
Bhūsurābhīṣṭada (fulfiller of the desires of brāhmaṇas), Bhūriyaśas (of great fame), Puṇyavivardhana (increaser of merit), Dharmarūpa (the form of Dharma), Dhanādhyakṣa (overseer of wealth), Dhanada (giver of wealth), Dharmapālana (protector of dharma). (11)
सर्ववेदार्थतत्त्वज्ञः सर्वापद्विनिवारकः ।
सर्वपापप्रशमनः स्वमतानुगतामरः ॥ 12 ॥
sarvavēdārthatattvajñaḥ sarvāpadvinivārakaḥ ।
sarvapāpapraśamanaḥ svamatānugatāmaraḥ ॥ 12 ॥
Sarvavedārthatattvajña (knower of the essence of all Vedic meaning), Sarvāpadvinivāraka (remover of all calamities), Sarvapāpapraśamana (pacifier of all sins), Svamatānugatāmara (immortal, abiding in his own view). (12)
ऋग्वेदपारगो ऋक्षराशिमार्गप्रचारकः ।
सदानन्दः सत्यसन्धः सत्यसङ्कल्पमानसः ॥ 13 ॥
ṛgvēdapāragō ṛkṣarāśimārgaprachārakaḥ ।
sadānandaḥ satyasandhaḥ satyasaṅkalpamānasaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
Ṛgvedapāraga (fully versed in the Ṛg Veda), Ṛkṣarāśimārgapracāraka (moving along the path of the nakṣatra constellations), Sadānanda (ever blissful), Satyasandha (firm in truth), Satyasaṅkalpamānasa (whose mind holds true resolve). (13)
सर्वागमज्ञः सर्वज्ञः सर्ववेदान्तविद्वरः ।
ब्रह्मपुत्रो ब्राह्मणेशो ब्रह्मविद्याविशारदः ॥ 14 ॥
sarvāgamajñaḥ sarvajñaḥ sarvavēdāntavidvaraḥ ।
brahmaputrō brāhmaṇēśō brahmavidyāviśāradaḥ ॥ 14 ॥
Sarvāgamajña (knower of all sacred sciences), Sarvajña (omniscient), Sarvavedāntavidvara (the best among Vedānta scholars), Brahmaputra (son of Brahmā), Brāhmaṇeśa (lord of the brāhmaṇas), Brahmavidyāviśārada (adept in the knowledge of Brahman). (14)
समानाधिकनिर्मुक्तः सर्वलोकवशंवदः ।
ससुरासुरगन्धर्ववन्दितः सत्यभाषणः ॥ 15 ॥
samānādhikanirmuktaḥ sarvalōkavaśaṃvadaḥ ।
sasurāsuragandharvavanditaḥ satyabhāṣaṇaḥ ॥ 15 ॥
Samānādhikanirmukta (beyond equal and superior), Sarvalōkavaśaṃvada (in accord with all the worlds), Sasurāsuragandharvāvanditaḥ (saluted by gods, demons, and gandharvas), Satyabhāṣaṇa (truthful in speech). (15)
नमः सुरेन्द्रवन्द्याय देवाचार्याय ते नमः ।
नमस्तेऽनन्तसामर्थ्य वेदसिद्धान्तपारगः ॥ 16 ॥
namaḥ surēndravandyāya dēvāchāryāya tē namaḥ ।
namastē'nantasāmarthya vēdasiddhāntapāragaḥ ॥ 16 ॥
Salutation to the one worshipped by the lord of gods, salutation to the preceptor of the gods. Salutation to you of infinite power, fully versed in the conclusions of the Vedas.
सदानन्द नमस्तेऽस्तु नमः पीडाहराय च ।
नमो वाचस्पते तुभ्यं नमस्ते पीतवाससे ॥ 17 ॥
sadānanda namastē'stu namaḥ pīḍāharāya cha ।
namō vāchaspatē tubhyaṃ namastē pītavāsasē ॥ 17 ॥
Ever blissful — salutation to you; salutation to the remover of afflictions. Salutation to Vācaspati; salutation to you clad in yellow robes.
नमोऽद्वितीयरूपाय लम्बकूर्चाय ते नमः ।
नमः प्रहृष्टनेत्राय विप्राणां पतये नमः ॥ 18 ॥
namō'dvitīyarūpāya lambakūrchāya tē namaḥ ।
namaḥ prahṛṣṭanētrāya viprāṇāṃ patayē namaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
Salutation to the one of incomparable form; salutation to you of flowing beard. Salutation to you of most joyful eyes; salutation to you, lord of the brāhmaṇas.
नमो भार्गवशिष्याय विपन्नहितकारिणे ।
नमस्ते सुरसैन्यानां विपत्तित्राणहेतवे ॥ 19 ॥
namō bhārgavaśiṣyāya vipannahitakāriṇē ।
namastē surasainyānāṃ vipattitrāṇahētavē ॥ 19 ॥
Salutation to the disciple of Bhārgava (Venus); salutation to the one who works for the welfare of the afflicted. Salutation to you, the cause of the gods' armies being saved from calamity.
बृहस्पतिः सुराचार्यो दयावान् शुभलक्षणः ।
लोकत्रयगुरुः श्रीमान् सर्वगः सर्वतोविभुः ॥ 20 ॥
bṛhaspatiḥ surāchāryō dayāvān śubhalakṣaṇaḥ ।
lōkatrayaguruḥ śrīmān sarvagaḥ sarvatōvibhuḥ ॥ 20 ॥
Bṛhaspati (lord of prayer), Surācārya (preceptor of the gods), Dayāvān (compassionate), Śubhalakṣaṇa (of auspicious marks), Lokatrayaguru (preceptor of the three worlds), Śrīmān (the auspicious), Sarvaga (all-pervading), Sarvatovibhu (omnipresent). (20)
सर्वेशः सर्वदातुष्टः सर्वदः सर्वपूजितः ।
अक्रोधनो मुनिश्रेष्ठो नीतिकर्ता जगत्पिता ॥ 21 ॥
sarvēśaḥ sarvadātuṣṭaḥ sarvadaḥ sarvapūjitaḥ ।
akrōdhanō muniśrēṣṭhō nītikartā jagatpitā ॥ 21 ॥
Sarveśa (lord of all), Sarvadātuṣṭa (ever satisfied with giving all), Sarvada (giver of all), Sarvapūjita (worshipped by all), Akrodhana (without anger), Muniśreṣṭha (best among the sages), Nītikartā (maker of just policy), Jagatpitā (father of the world). (21)
विश्वात्मा विश्वकर्ता च विश्वयोनिरयोनिजः ।
भूर्भुवोधनदाता च भर्ताजीवो महाबलः ॥ 22 ॥
viśvātmā viśvakartā cha viśvayōnirayōnijaḥ ।
bhūrbhuvōdhanadātā cha bhartājīvō mahābalaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
Viśvātman (soul of the universe), Viśvakartā (creator of the universe), Viśvayoni (womb of the universe), Ayonija (not born of a womb), Bhūrbhuvaḥ Dhanadātā (giver of wealth throughout earth and sky), Bhartā (the sustainer), Jīva (the living one), Mahābala (of great strength). (22)
बृहस्पतिः काश्यपेयो दयावान् शुभलक्षणः ।
अभीष्टफलदः श्रीमान् शुभग्रह नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 23 ॥
bṛhaspatiḥ kāśyapēyō dayāvān śubhalakṣaṇaḥ ।
abhīṣṭaphaladaḥ śrīmān śubhagraha namō'stu tē ॥ 23 ॥
Bṛhaspati, of the lineage of Kaśyapa, compassionate, of auspicious marks — giver of all desired fruits, the auspicious planet — salutation to you.
बृहस्पतिः सुराचार्यो देवासुरसुपूजितः ।
आचार्योदानवारिश्च सुरमन्त्री पुरोहितः ॥ 24 ॥
bṛhaspatiḥ surāchāryō dēvāsurasupūjitaḥ ।
āchāryōdānavāriścha suramantrī purōhitaḥ ॥ 24 ॥
Bṛhaspati, preceptor of the gods, worshipped by gods and demons; the teacher, the repeller of demons, counsellor of the gods and their chaplain.
कालज्ञः कालृग्वेत्ता चित्तगश्च प्रजापतिः ।
विष्णुः कृष्णः सदासूक्ष्मः प्रतिदेवोज्ज्वलग्रहः ॥ 25 ॥
kālajñaḥ kālṛgvēttā chittagaścha prajāpatiḥ ।
viṣṇuḥ kṛṣṇaḥ sadāsūkṣmaḥ pratidēvōjjvalagrahaḥ ॥ 25 ॥
Kālajña (knower of time), Kālaṛgvettā (knower of Vedic hymns of time), Cittagā (dwelling in the mind), Prajāpati (lord of creatures), Viṣṇu (all-pervading), Kṛṣṇa (the dark-hued), Sadāsūkṣma (ever subtle), Pratideva (the deity facing all), Ujjvalagraha (the radiant planet). (25)
