About this stotra

The Ugraṁ Vīraṁ Mahāviṣṇuṁ is a celebrated single-verse mantra addressed to Narasiṁha, the man-lion incarnation of Lord Viṣṇu. Known as the Narasiṁha Mantra, it praises the deity's twofold nature — at once ugraṁ vīraṁ bhīṣaṇaṁ (ferocious, valiant, and terrifying) toward evil, yet bhadraṁ (auspicious and gracious) toward devotees. The powerful epithet mr̥tyōr mr̥tyuṁ, "the death of death," captures his role as the destroyer of fear and mortality itself.
This mantra is widely recited by devotees of Narasiṁha and holds a special place in temples dedicated to him, where it is chanted with great intensity. Its compact form makes it easy to memorize and repeat as a protective invocation.
Recitation of this mantra is said to grant protection from all fears, dangers, and enemies, invoking the fierce yet loving grace of the Lord.

Om, To that form of Lord Maha-Vishnu; Which is Ugra (Ferocious) and Vira (Exhibiting great Prowess); And which is like a Blazing Fire facing all Directions,
To that form of Lord Nrisimha, Who is Bhishana (Terrifying) but Bhadra (Auspicious); Who is the Death of Death; I Bow down to that Form.
