About this stotra

The Śrī Śiva Āratī is a devotional hymn of praise offered to Lord Śiva during the ceremonial waving of lamps. Through its verses, the āratī invokes Śiva by his many sacred names and forms — as Viśveśvara (Lord of the Universe), Sāmba-Śambhu, the three-eyed one adorned with serpents and sacred ash, the beloved of Pārvatī, and the dweller of Kailāsa.
The hymn beautifully weaves together Śiva's various manifestations: Dakṣiṇāmūrti the divine teacher, the destroyer of Tripura, the lord of Cidambaram, and Viśvanātha presiding over the jyotirliṅgas. Each verse concludes with the refrain vande'haṃ śivaśaṅkaramīśaṃ deveśam — "I bow to Śiva-Śaṅkara, the lord of gods" — creating a meditative rhythm suited for temple worship and home shrines alike. Reciting this āratī with devotion is said to invoke Śiva's grace and bestow auspiciousness upon the devotee.
