About this stotra
Sree Mallikarjuna Mangalasasanam means: Auspicious praise of Lord Mallikarjuna.
Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism, is revered as the destroyer and transformer within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity that includes Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. He is often depicted with a third eye, a crescent moon on his head, and the river Ganga flowing from his matted hair. Lord Shiva is worshipped in many forms, including as the Jyotirlinga, which are sacred shrines where he is said to have manifested as a column of light.
This hymn is a series of verses that offer auspicious salutations to Lord Shiva, specifically in his form as Lord Mallikarjuna, who is associated with the sacred site of Srisailam. The verses praise Lord Shiva as the beloved of Goddess Uma, the bestower of desires, and the divine resident of the mountain. He is described as embodying all auspiciousness and as the bearer of the Ganga. The hymn emphasizes Lord Shiva's eternal blissful nature and his accessibility through the Vedas. The verses also mention various sacred sites and deities associated with Lord Shiva, such as the sacred peaks and holy waters, highlighting the spiritual significance of these places. The hymn concludes with a reverent bow to the Srisaila Linga, acknowledging Lord Shiva's presence in the natural and divine realms. The overall purpose of reciting this hymn is to seek blessings, protection, and spiritual upliftment from Lord Shiva.
