About this stotra

Origin and StoryThe Lalitha Trishati Stotram is a sacred hymn found in the Brahmanda Purana, specifically within the Lalithopakhyanam. Trishati literally means three-hundred (referring to the 300 divine names of the Goddess) It takes the form of a divine dialogue between Lord Hayagriva, an incarnation of Vishnu, and the great Sage Agastya.
After learning the 1,000 names (Lalitha Sahasranamam), Agastya felt his spiritual journey was incomplete and pleaded for a deeper secret. Lord Hayagriva was initially hesitant to reveal this stotram due to its highly confidential nature, but he eventually did so after Goddess Lalitha herself appeared and commanded him to teach it, deeming Agastya and his wife Lopamudra as worthy recipients.
Because of this, it is often called the Sarva Poorthikara Stotram, or the 'hymn that completes everything.'
StructureWhat makes the Trishati unique is its direct connection to the Panchadashakshari Mantra, the core 15-syllable mantra of the Sri Vidya tradition. The stotram is meticulously constructed so that each of the 15 syllables of that mantra generates exactly 20 names, totaling 300 divine epithets.
While other hymns are often described as the 'fragrance of the Goddess', the Trishati is considered her literal 'sound-body.' Because it is built entirely upon the foundational vibrations of the mantra, it is regarded as a more concentrated and potent form of worship than the longer Sahasranamam.
Spiritual Significance and BenefitsPractitioners believe that reciting these 300 names brings both material prosperity and ultimate spiritual liberation (Moksha).
According to the Phala Shruti (the verses describing the fruits of the practice), the stotram has the power to dissolve deep-seated karmic baggage, resolve financial or health difficulties, and bring profound mental peace. It is said that even a single sincere recitation can grant the devotee a sense of complete contentment.
Beyond worldly gains, it is primarily used as a tool for awakening inner consciousness and aligning oneself with the supreme feminine energy, Tripura Sundari.
Practicing the Stotram Auspicious Timing: Fridays and Full Moon days (Purnima) are considered the most powerful times for recitation. Initiation: Because the names are derived from powerful seed syllables (Bijaksharas), many traditions suggest learning it from a Guru, though sincere devotion is always the primary requirement. Archana: It is common practice to perform Archana by offering flowers, raisins, or kumkum to an image of the Goddess or a Sri Chakra as each name is chanted.
