About this stotra

The Sree Lakshmi Ashtottara Satanaama Stotram enumerates 108 divine names of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, prosperity, beauty and good fortune. The names range from cosmic attributes (Prakriti — nature, Vidya — knowledge, Lokamataram — world-mother) to intimate epithets (Padmalaya — lotus-dweller, Chandravadana — moon-faced, Vishnupatni — Vishnu's consort, Hrivallabha — Hari's beloved). The phalashruti (last three verses) promises that reciting these names three times daily for six months removes poverty, and that reading them on Fridays for a year brings the eight forms of prosperity. It is traditionally recited on Fridays and during Lakshmi Puja.
