About this stotra
The Sri Durga Saptashloki is a beloved seven-verse distillation of the Devī Māhātmya, presented as a dialogue between Lord Śiva and the Goddess. When Śiva asks how devotees in the Kali Yuga may easily attain success in all undertakings, the Devī reveals these seven potent verses as a condensed practice carrying the essence of the full seven hundred verses.
The hymn invokes the triple form of the supreme Goddess — Mahākālī, Mahālakṣmī, and Mahāsarasvatī — and includes the famous verse sarvabādhāpraśamanaṃ, which calls upon the Akhileśvarī (Sovereign of all worlds) to pacify all afflictions and destroy all adversaries. the Goddess reveals these seven shlokas — summarising her power to remove fear, poverty, disease and all obstacles for those who seek her refuge. The collection includes the well-known 'Sarva Mangala Mangalye' and 'Sharanagata Dinarta Paritraana Paraayane'. Treasured for its brevity and power, the Saptaślokī is often recited when time does not permit the complete Durgā Saptaśatī path, yet the devotee wishes to receive the Mother's full grace.
Regular recitation is said to remove obstacles, grant protection from enemies, and bring success in all endeavors — bestowing upon the faithful the complete fruit of the longer scripture.
