ओ-न्निध॑नपतये॒ नमः । निधनपतान्तिकाय॒ नमः ।
ऊर्ध्वाय॒ नमः । ऊर्ध्वलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।
हिरण्याय॒ नमः । हिरण्यलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।
सुवर्णाय॒ नमः । सुवर्णलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।
दिव्याय॒ नमः । दिव्यलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।
भवायः॒ नमः । भवलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।
शर्वाय॒ नमः । शर्वलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।
शिवाय॒ नमः । शिवलिङ्गाय॒ नमः ।

ētatsōmasya̍ sūrya̠sya sarvaliṅgagg̍ sthāpa̠ya̠ti̠ pāṇimantra-mpavi̠tram ॥
Salutations (namah) to the Lord (pataye) of the dissolution (nidhana) of the Universe.
Salutations to Shiva, who puts an end to the Lord of death (pataantikaaya) by granting us immortality.
Salutations to the highest principle (Urdhva)
Salutations to the lingam which is the embodiment of Urdhva
Salutations to the one who is both beneficial and charming to all creatures.
Salutations to the One who is visualized as the Linga made of Gold.
Salutations to the One who is endowed with attractive Splendor!
Salutations to that lingam which is the embodiment of splendor.
Salutations to the One who is the source of bliss in heaven.
Salutations to Divya-linga
Salutations to the One, who destroys the cycle of birth and death.
Salutations to the lingam which is the embodiment of Bhava.
Salutations to the One, who is the suppresser of the Universe at the final time of dissolution.
Salutations to the lingam which is the embodiment of Sharva.
Salutations to One, who is the most auspicious of all.
Salutations to the lingam, which is the embodiment of auspiciousness
Salutations to the One who is as splendorous as a flame.
Salutations to that lingam which is the embodiment of splendor.
Salutations to the one who is the spirit dwelling in all beings.
Salutations to the Aatma linga who is concealed in the heart of all beings, being their inner most self.
Salutations to the one who is Unsurpassed.
Salutations to the lingam who is the Supreme lord of bliss and liberation.
Holding the lingam in hand, these holy mantras (The 22 above) are recited to consecrate and install the lingam. This lingam embodies the Sun and the Moon. (After the lingam is installed, the five faces of the linga is worshipped in the following verses.)

Verse 2
स॒द्यो जा॒त-म्प्र॑पद्या॒मि॒ स॒द्यो जा॒ताय॒ वै नमो॒ नमः॑ ।
भ॒वे भ॑वे॒ नाति॑भवे भवस्व॒ माम् । भ॒वो-द्भ॑वाय॒ नमः॑ ॥
sa̠dyō jā̠ta-mpra̍padyā̠mi̠ sa̠dyō jā̠tāya̠ vai namō̠ nama̍ḥ ।
bha̠vē bha̍vē̠ nāti̍bhavē bhavasva̠ mām । bha̠vō-dbha̍vāya̠ nama̍ḥ ॥
Prayer to Western Face – Sadyojaatam
I take refuge (Prapadyami) in Sadyojatta – who is the source of all existence. Verily (vai), I salute Sadyojaatam again and again. Do not consign me (maam) to repeated birth (Bhava).
Lead me beyond birth (athibhave), into the state of bliss and liberation. I offer my salutations (namaH) to One who can lead me through the cycle of birth and death (Bhavodbhavaya)

वा॒म॒दे॒वाय॒ नमो᳚ ज्ये॒ष्ठाय॒ नमः॑ श्रे॒ष्ठाय॒ नमो॑ रु॒द्राय॒ नमः॒
काला॑य॒ नमः॒ कल॑विकरणाय॒ नमो॒ बल॑विकरणाय॒ नमो॒ बला॑य॒ नमो॒
बल॑प्रमथनाय॒ नम॒ स्सर्व॑भूतदमनाय॒ नमो॑ म॒नोन्म॑नाय॒ नमः॑ ।

Prayer to the Northern Face – Vaamadeva
Salutations to:
Vaamadevaa – who is beautiful, effulgent
Jyeshthaaya – (old) who is ever in existence (even before creation)
Shreshthaaya – (Best) who is noble, most worthy and excellent
Rudraaya – who is the cause of beings to weep at the time of dissolution. (or one who makes problems melt away)
Kaalaya – Who is the Lord of Time or One who transcends time
Kala-vikaraNaaya – who causes many changes (vikarNa – many or variety) in the evolutions of the Universe
Bala-VikaraNaya – Who is the source of the many varieties or degrees of strength.
Balaaya – who is the source of all strength
Bala-pramathanaaya – who suppresses all power at the time of dissolution.
Sarva-bhuuta-damanaaya – who is the ruler of all created beings.
Manonmanaaya – who kindles the light of the soul.

Verse 4
अ॒घोरे᳚भ्यो ऽथ॒घोरे᳚भ्यो॒ घोर॒घोर॑तरेभ्यः ।
सर्वे᳚भ्य-स्सर्व॒ शर्वे᳚भ्यो॒ नम॑स्ते अस्तु रु॒द्ररू॑पेभ्यः ॥
a̠ghōrē̎bhyō 'tha̠ghōrē̎bhyō̠ ghōra̠ghōra̍tarēbhyaḥ ।
sarvē̎bhya-ssarva̠ śarvē̎bhyō̠ nama̍stē astu ru̠drarū̍pēbhyaḥ ॥
Prayer to the Southern face
My salutations to all forms of Rudra –
Ghora – terrifying
Aghora – not terrifying
Ghora tara – very terrifying
To all these forms - benign, splendid and destructive – at all times and at all places I surrender.
(Note : Ghora and Aghora represent two aspects of Shiva – Aspect for creation and dissolution of the Universe.)

Verse 5
तत्पुरु॑षाय वि॒द्महे॑ महादे॒वाय॑ धीमहि ।
तन्नो॑ रुद्रः प्रचो॒दया᳚त् ॥
tatpuru̍ṣāya vi̠dmahē̍ mahādē̠vāya̍ dhīmahi ।
tannō̍ rudraḥ prachō̠dayā̎t ॥
Prayer to the Eastern face
May we know or realize the Supreme person (tat Purusha).
For that, may we meditate upon Lord Mahaadeva.
May Lord Rudra fertilize our intellect such that our intelligence blossoms into wisdom and we get illumined.

Verse 6
ईशान-स्सर्व॑विद्या॒ना॒-मीश्वरसर्व॑ भूता॒नां॒
ब्रह्माधि॑पति॒-र्ब्रह्म॒णो-ऽधि॑पति॒-र्ब्रह्मा॑ शि॒वो मे॑ अस्तु सदाशि॒वोम् ॥
īśāna-ssarva̍vidyā̠nā̠-mīśvarasarva̍ bhūtā̠nā̠ṃ
brahmādhi̍pati̠-rbrahma̠ṇō-'dhi̍pati̠-rbrahmā̍ śi̠vō mē̍ astu sadāśi̠vōm ॥
Prayer to the Above Facing Ishaana
The Supreme is the ruler (Ishaana) of all knowledge and controller of all created beings.
The Supreme is the Lord of the Vedas and those who impart the knowledge of the Vedas.
May the Supreme be benign to me.
I am the Sadashiva described and denoted by ‘AUM’.

Verse 7
नमो हिरण्यबाहवे हिरण्यवर्णाय हिरण्यरूपाय हिरण्यपतये-ऽम्बिकापतय उमापतये पशुपतये॑ नमो॒ नमः ॥
namō hiraṇyabāhavē hiraṇyavarṇāya hiraṇyarūpāya hiraṇyapatayē-'mbikāpataya umāpatayē paśupatayē̍ namō̠ namaḥ ॥
Salutations to the Linga
Salutations to the One who has golden hands, who is of golden hue or whose speech is charming, who is of golden form or whose form is charming, who is Lord of all wealth or gold, who is the Lord of Mother Ambika, who is the Lord of Mother Uma and who is the Lord of all beings.

Verse 8
ऋ॒तग्ंऋ॒तग्ं स॒त्य-म्प॑र-म्ब्र॒ह्म॒ पु॒रुष॑-ङ्कृष्ण॒पिङ्ग॑लम् ।
ऊ॒र्ध्वरे॑तं-विँ॑रूपा॒क्षं॒-विँ॒श्वरू॑पाय॒ वै नमो॒ नमः॑ ॥
ṛ̠tagṃṛ̠tagṃ sa̠tya-mpa̍ra-mbra̠hma̠ pu̠ruṣa̍-ṅkṛṣṇa̠piṅga̍lam ।
ū̠rdhvarē̍taṃ vi̍rūpā̠kṣa̠ṃ vi̠śvarū̍pāya̠ vai namō̠ nama̍ḥ ॥
I offer my salutations to that Supreme Person –
- Who is the embodiment of Right and truth.
- Whose complexion is both dark and red.
- Who is a great yogi or One who has the highest power
- Who has odd number of eyes
- One whose cosmic form envelops the entire Universe.

Verse 9
सर्वो॒ ह्ये॑ष रु॒द्रस्तस्मै॑ रु॒द्राय॒ नमो॑ अस्तु॒ ।
पुरु॑षो॒ वै रु॒द्रस्सन्म॒हो नमो॒ नमः॑ ।
sarvō̠ hyē̍ṣa ru̠drastasmai̍ ru̠drāya̠ namō̍ astu̠ ।
puru̍ṣō̠ vai ru̠drassanma̠hō namō̠ nama̍ḥ ।
Verily, all this is Rudra
I salute that Rudra. The great Purusha is Himself Rudra – who is the Light within all beings.

Verse 10
विश्व॑-म्भू॒त-म्भुव॑न-ञ्चि॒त्र-म्ब॑हु॒धा जा॒त-ञ्जाय॑मान-ञ्च॒ यत् ।
सर्वो॒ ह्ये॑ष रु॒द्रस्तस्मै॑ रु॒द्राय॒ नमो॑ अस्तु॒ ।
viśva̍-mbhū̠ta-mbhuva̍na-ñchi̠tra-mba̍hu̠dhā jā̠ta-ñjāya̍māna-ñcha̠ yat ।
sarvō̠ hyē̍ṣa ru̠drastasmai̍ ru̠drāya̠ namō̍ astu̠ ।
This material universe and the beings in this world are varied and numerous.
All that are born and those yet to be born are Rudra indeed.
All this is Rudro and to Him, I offer my salutations again and again.

Verse 11
क-द्रु॒द्राय॒ प्रचे॑तसे मी॒ढुष्ट॑माय॒ तव्य॑से । वो॒चेम॒ शन्त॑मग्ं हृ॒दे ।
सर्वो॒ ह्ये॑ष रु॒द्रस्तस्मै॑ रु॒द्राय॒ नमो॑ अस्तु॒ ।
ka-dru̠drāya̠ prachē̍tasē mī̠ḍhuṣṭa̍māya̠ tavya̍sē । vō̠chēma̠ śanta̍magṃ hṛ̠dē ।
sarvō̠ hyē̍ṣa ru̠drastasmai̍ ru̠drāya̠ namō̍ astu̠ ।
We pray to Rudra
· Who is praiseworthy
· Who is endowed with knowledge and awareness
· Who fulfills all desires
· Who is all powerful
· Who bestows all auspiciousness
· Who resides in the heart
All this is Rudra
We offer our salutations to Rudra.

मा नो॑ म॒हान्त॑मु॒त मा नो॑ अर्भ॒क-म्मा न॒ उक्ष॑न्तमु॒त मा न॑ उक्षि॒तम् ।
मा नो॑ वधीः पि॒तर॒-म्मोत मा॒तर॑-म्प्रि॒या मा न॑स्त॒नुवो॑ रुद्र रीरिषः ।
mā nō̍ ma̠hānta̍mu̠ta mā nō̍ arbha̠ka-mmā na̠ ukṣa̍ntamu̠ta mā na̍ ukṣi̠tam ।
mā nō̍ vadhīḥ pi̠tara̠-mmōta mā̠tara̍-mpri̠yā mā na̍sta̠nuvō̍ rudra rīriṣaḥ ।
maa nō̍ ma̠haanta̍mu̠ta maa nō̍ arbha̠ka-mmaa na̠ uksha̍ntamu̠ta maa na̍ ukshi̠tam ।
maa nō̍ vadhiih pi̠tara̠-mmōta maa̠tara̍-mpri̠yaa maa na̍sta̠nuvō̍ rudra riirishah ।

मा न॑स्तो॒के तन॑ये॒ मा न॒ आयु॑षि॒ मा नो॒ गोषु॒ मा नो॒ अश्वे॑षु रीरिषः ।
वी॒रान्मा नो॑ रुद्र भामि॒तो-ऽव॑धीर्ह॒विष्मं॑तो॒ नम॑सा विधेम ते ।
mā na̍stō̠kē tana̍yē̠ mā na̠ āyu̍ṣi̠ mā nō̠ gōṣu̠ mā nō̠ aśvē̍ṣu rīriṣaḥ ।
vī̠rānmā nō̍ rudra bhāmi̠tō-'va̍dhīrha̠viṣmaṃ̍tō̠ nama̍sā vidhēma tē ।
maa na̍stō̠kē tana̍yē̠ maa na̠ aayu̍shi̠ maa nō̠ gōshu̠ maa nō̠ ashvē̍shu riirishah ।
vii̠raanmaa nō̍ rudra bhaami̠tō-'va̍dhiirha̠vishmam̍tō̠ nama̍saa vidhēma tē ।

त्र्य॑म्बकं-यँजामहे सुग॒न्धि-म्पु॑ष्टि॒वर्ध॑नम् ।
उ॒र्वा॒रु॒कमि॑व॒ बन्ध॑नान्मृ॒त्योर्मु॑क्षीय॒ मा-ऽमृता᳚त् ।
trya̍mbakaṃ yajāmahē suga̠ndhi-mpu̍ṣṭi̠vardha̍nam ।
u̠rvā̠ru̠kami̍va̠ bandha̍nānmṛ̠tyōrmu̍kṣīya̠ mā-'mṛtā̎t ।
trya̍mbakam yajaamahē suga̠ndhi-mpu̍shti̠vardha̍nam ।
u̠rvaa̠ru̠kami̍va̠ bandha̍naanmri̠tyōrmu̍kshiiya̠ maa-'mritaa̎t ।

ये ते॑ स॒हस्र॑म॒युत॒-म्पाशा॒ मृत्यो॒ मर्त्या॑य॒ हन्त॑वे ।
तान् य॒ज्ञस्य॑ मा॒यया॒ सर्वा॒नव॑ यजामहे ।
yē tē̍ sa̠hasra̍ma̠yuta̠-mpāśā̠ mṛtyō̠ martyā̍ya̠ hanta̍vē ।
tān ya̠jñasya̍ mā̠yayā̠ sarvā̠nava̍ yajāmahē ।
yē tē̍ sa̠hasra̍ma̠yuta̠-mpaashaa̠ mrityō̠ martyaa̍ya̠ hanta̍vē ।
taan ya̠jnasya̍ maa̠yayaa̠ sarvaa̠nava̍ yajaamahē ।

मृ॒त्यवे॒ स्वाहा॑ मृ॒त्यवे॒ स्वाहा᳚ ।
प्राणाना-ङ्ग्रन्थिरसि रुद्रो मा॑ विशा॒न्तकः ।
तेनान्नेना᳚प्याय॒स्व ॥
नमो रुद्राय विष्णवे मृत्यु॑र्मे पा॒हि ॥
mṛ̠tyavē̠ svāhā̍ mṛ̠tyavē̠ svāhā̎ ।
prāṇānā-ṅgranthirasi rudrō mā̍ viśā̠ntakaḥ ।
tēnānnēnā̎pyāya̠sva ॥
namō rudrāya viṣṇavē mṛtyu̍rmē pā̠hi ॥
mri̠tyavē̠ svaahaa̍ mri̠tyavē̠ svaahaa̎ ।
praanaanaa-ngranthirasi rudrō maa̍ vishaa̠ntakah ।
tēnaannēnaa̎pyaaya̠sva ॥
namō rudraaya vishnavē mrityu̍rmē paa̠hi ॥

त्वम॑ग्ने द्युभि॒स्त्व-मा॑शुशु॒क्षणि॒स्त्व-म॒द्भ्यस्त्व-मश्म॑न॒स्परि॑ । त्वं-वँने᳚भ्य॒-स्त्वमोष॑धीभ्य॒-स्त्व-न्नृ॒णा-न्नृ॑पते जायसे॒ शुचिः॒ ॥
tvama̍gnē dyubhi̠stva-mā̍śuśu̠kṣaṇi̠stva-ma̠dbhyastva-maśma̍na̠spari̍ । tvaṃ vanē̎bhya̠-stvamōṣa̍dhībhya̠-stva-nnṛ̠ṇā-nnṛ̍patē jāyasē̠ śuchi̠ḥ ॥
tvama̍gnē dyubhi̠stva-maa̍shushu̠kshani̠stva-ma̠dbhyastva-mashma̍na̠spari̍ । tvam vanē̎bhya̠-stvamōsha̍dhiibhya̠-stva-nnri̠naa-nnri̍patē jaayasē̠ shuchi̠h ॥

शि॒वेन॑ मे॒ सन्ति॑ष्ठस्व-स्यो॒नेन॑ मे॒ सन्ति॑ष्ठस्व सुभू॒तेन॑ मे॒ सन्ति॑ष्ठस्व य॒ज्ञस्यद्भि॒र्मनु॒ सन्ति॑ष्ठस्वोप॑ ते यज्ञ॒ नम॒ उप॑ ते॒ नम॒ उप॑ ते॒ नमः॑ ॥
