Sata Rudreeyam means: the hymn of the hundred names of Lord Rudra, a form of Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva, also known as Lord Rudra, is one of the principal deities in Hinduism, revered as the Supreme Being in Shaivism. He is known as the destroyer and transformer within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity that includes Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. Lord Shiva is often depicted with a third eye, a crescent moon on his head, and the river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, symbolizing his control over time and the cosmos.
The Sata Rudreeyam praises Lord Shiva as the supreme ruler and protector of the universe. The first verse acknowledges him as the foremost among the divine beings, the lord of all worlds, and the master of creation. The second verse invites devotees to seek refuge in Lord Shiva, recognizing him as the bestower of boons and the lord of all beings. The third verse describes his attributes as the great god, the ascetic with matted locks, and the mighty Lord Rudra with powerful arms. The fourth verse offers salutations to him as the eternal lord of cattle, sacrifices, and all deities, emphasizing his role as the protector and benefactor. The fifth verse venerates him as the remover of obstacles, the three-eyed one, and the blue-throated harbinger of blessings, highlighting his various forms and attributes. Overall, the hymn seeks the blessings and protection of Lord Shiva, celebrating his omnipotence and benevolence.
