About this stotra

The Pārvatī Vallabha Aṣṭakam is an eight-verse hymn in praise of Lord Śiva as the beloved consort of Pārvatī. Each verse concludes with the refrain bhajē pārvatīvallabhaṃ nīlakaṇṭham — "I worship the blue-throated one, the beloved of Pārvatī" — weaving together Śiva's many aspects into a unified act of devotion.
The hymn moves through a rich tapestry of Śiva's attributes: he is the lord of all beings and the conqueror of death itself, the one who burned Kāma to ash yet remains serene in nature. He dwells in cremation grounds wrapped in elephant hide, lord of piśācas and protector of all creatures. Yet he is also the foremost among sages, the essence of Vedic wisdom, and compassionate toward the humble. The repeated sadā (always) in several verses emphasizes his eternal, unchanging nature — ever pure, ever worthy of worship, ever accessible to devotees.
This aṣṭakam is well-suited for daily recitation by Śiva devotees, particularly on Mondays and during Pradoṣa. Regular chanting is said to invoke Śiva's protective grace and cultivate inner tranquility.
