About this stotra
This verse is often chanted early in the morning to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Sarasvati, and Lord Govinda. The hands are viewed as sacred, and the act of gazing at them in the morning is believed to bring wealth, knowledge, and divine protection throughout the day. Goddess Lakshmi at the fingertips represents wealth and prosperity. The fingertips symbolise action and work - suggesting that prosperity comes through the work we do with our hands. Sarasvati in the middle of the palm represents knowledge and wisdom. The middle of the palm is where we hold things, suggesting that we should hold onto and cherish learning and wisdom in everything we do. Govinda (Krishna) at the base of the palm represents divine support and spiritual foundation. The base of the palm is the source of strength for all hand movements, suggesting that spiritual grounding should be the foundation of all our actions. In this manner, we are praying for a life of holistic well-being: Material, Intellectual and Spiritual.
As soon as you wake up, bring your palms together in front of you or look at your palms in a prayer-like gesture. Chant the shloka slowly and clearly, in a soft voice or mentally, focusing on the meaning of each line as you verbalise it. While chanting, visualise the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi at your fingertips, Goddess Sarasvati in the middle of your hands, and Lord Govinda at the base. This visualisation can help reinforce a sense of gratitude and readiness for the day. After chanting, gently rub your palms together and place them over your eyes to transfer the positive energy before starting your day. Chanting this shloka in this manner allows you to begin the day with a sense of divine connection, ensuring that you will be guided and supported by these deities in your actions and endeavours during the day.
