Kalyana Vrishti Stavam lyrics and meaning

॥ १ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 1

kalyāṇavṛṣṭibhirivāmṛtapūritābhi-
-rlakṣmīsvayaṃvaraṇamaṅgaladīpikābhiḥ ।
sēvābhiramba tava pādasarōjamūlē
nākāri kiṃ manasi bhāgyavatāṃ janānām ॥ 1 ॥

O mother Ambā — through services that are like showers of auspiciousness, that are as if filled with the nectar of the auspicious lamp of Lakṣmī's self-choice ceremony, offered at the root of your lotus-feet — may I know a state of complete fullness.

॥ २ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 2

ētāvadēva janani spṛhaṇīyamāstē
tvadvandanēṣu salilasthagitē cha nētrē ।
sānnidhyamudyadaruṇāyutasōdarasya
tvadvigrahasya parayā sudhayāplutasya ॥ 2 ॥

Only this much is to be desired, O mother — that in [acts of] bowing to you, the eyes are veiled by tears — and the proximity of one who is like a sibling to ten thousand rising suns is attained.

॥ ३ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 3

īśatvanāmakaluṣāḥ kati vā na santi
brahmādayaḥ pratibhavaṃ pralayābhibhūtāḥ ।
ēkaḥ sa ēva janani sthirasiddhirāstē
yaḥ pādayōstava sakṛtpraṇatiṃ karōti ॥ 3 ॥

O mother — how many are there who bear the name of sovereignty, like Brahmā and others, who are repeatedly overcome by dissolution? One alone, O mother, has stable attainment — and that one is he who has your grace.

॥ ४ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 4

labdhvā sakṛttripurasundari tāvakīnaṃ
kāruṇyakandalitakāntibharaṃ kaṭākṣam ।
kandarpakōṭisubhagāstvayi bhaktibhājaḥ
sammōhayanti taruṇīrbhuvanatrayē'pi ॥ 4 ॥

O Tripura Sundarī — having once obtained your sidelong glance, filled with the beauty of compassion in full bloom — those who are devoted to you become beautiful as ten million Kāmas, and they are absorbed in you, no longer seeking anything else.

॥ ५ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 5

hrīṃ‍kāramēva tava nāma gṛṇanti vēdā
mātastrikōṇanilayē tripurē trinētrē ।
tvatsaṃsmṛtau yamabhaṭābhibhavaṃ vihāya
dīvyanti nandanavanē saha lōkapālaiḥ ॥ 5 ॥

O mother — dwelling in the triangle, O Tripura, O three-eyed one — the Vedas declare Hrīṃ alone to be your name. In [moments of] remembering you, the messengers of Yama who have come to seize [a devotee] turn away — astonished, vanquished.

॥ ६ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 6

hantuḥ purāmadhigalaṃ paripīyamānaḥ
krūraḥ kathaṃ na bhavitā garalasya vēgaḥ ।
nāśvāsanāya yadi mātaridaṃ tavārthaṃ
dēhasya śaśvadamṛtāplutaśītalasya ॥ 6 ॥

How could the poison's power not be fierce and cruel — being drunk down across the throat of the destroyer of the three cities [Śiva]? Unless, O mother, it was for the purpose of reassuring [the world] — 'This is meant to symbolize the protection offered by your [grace].'

॥ ७ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 7

sarvajñatāṃ sadasi vākpaṭutāṃ prasūtē
dēvi tvadaṅghrisarasīruhayōḥ praṇāmaḥ ।
kiṃ cha sphuranmakuṭamujjvalamātapatraṃ
dvē chāmarē cha mahatīṃ vasudhāṃ dadāti ॥ 7 ॥

O Goddess — prostration at your lotus-feet produces omniscience and eloquence in the assembly. Moreover — a shining crown above, and an upward-pointing royal parasol, are [also obtained] by the devoted worshipper.

॥ ८ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 8

kalpadrumairabhimatapratipādanēṣu
kāruṇyavāridhibhiramba bhavātkaṭākṣaiḥ ।
ālōkaya tripurasundari māmanāthaṃ
tvayyēva bhaktibharitaṃ tvayi baddhatṛṣṇam ॥ 8 ॥

O Tripura Sundarī — you are an ocean of compassion (kāruṇya-vāridhi), like the wish-fulfilling trees (kalpa-drumas) in satisfying all desired things. Look upon me, the unprotected one, with those eyes that are like blooming, shining wish-fulfilling blossoms.

॥ ९ ॥♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 9

hantētarēṣvapi manāṃsi nidhāya chānyē
bhaktiṃ vahanti kila pāmaradaivatēṣu ।
tvāmēva dēvi manasā samanusmarāmi
tvāmēva naumi śaraṇaṃ janani tvamēva ॥ 9 ॥

Alas — others too place their minds elsewhere and yet carry devotion to wretched deities. We, however, remember only you, O Goddess — and we are not deviated by anyone. Yet — when will you turn your face to us?

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 10

lakṣyēṣu satsvapi kaṭākṣanirīkṣaṇānā-
-mālōkaya tripurasundari māṃ kadāchit ।
nūnaṃ mayā tu sadṛśaḥ karuṇaikapātraṃ
jātō janiṣyati janō na cha jāyatē vā ॥ 10 ॥

O Tripura Sundarī — even though there are other worthy targets for your sidelong glance — do look upon me at some point. Certainly there is no one like me who is more negligent — and therefore it is all the more [urgent for you to look upon me].

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 11

hrīṃ hrīmiti pratidinaṃ japatāṃ tavākhyāṃ
kiṃ nāma durlabhamiha tripurādhivāsē ।
mālākirīṭamadavāraṇamānanīyā
tānsēvatē vasumatī svayamēva lakṣmīḥ ॥ 11 ॥

O Tripurā, dweller of Tripura — for those who daily chant your name 'Hrīṃ Hrīṃ' — what is there in this world that is unattainable? Garlands, crowns, intoxicated elephants, honor — all are obtained.

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 12

sampatkarāṇi sakalēndriyanandanāni
sāmrājyadānaniratāni sarōruhākṣi ।
tvadvandanāni duritāharaṇōdyatāni
māmēva mātaraniśaṃ kalayantu nānyam ॥ 12 ॥

O lotus-eyed one — the acts of bowing to you make all the senses rejoice, bring prosperity, are devoted to granting sovereignty, and are capable — readily — of destroying what is sinful. Such are the services at your lotus-feet.

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 13

kalpōpasaṃhṛtiṣu kalpitatāṇḍavasya
dēvasya khaṇḍaparaśōḥ parabhairavasya ।
pāśāṅkuśaikṣavaśarāsanapuṣpabāṇā
sā sākṣiṇī vijayatē tava mūrtirēkā ॥ 13 ॥

At the dissolution of aeons, she who is the consort of the one who has begun the tāṇḍava dance — the one wielding the partial axe (Śiva) — the supreme Bhairavī — she who holds the noose, the goad, the sugar-cane bow, and the flower-arrow — that Pārvatī ever dwells in my heart.

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 14

lagnaṃ sadā bhavatu mātaridaṃ tavārdhaṃ
tējaḥ paraṃ bahulakuṅkumapaṅkaśōṇam ।
bhāsvatkirīṭamamṛtāṃśukalāvataṃsaṃ
madhyē trikōṇanilayaṃ paramāmṛtārdram ॥ 14 ॥

May this — your half, O mother — always remain attached to [my mind]. That supreme radiance, red as abundant vermilion paste — bearing the blazing crown — adorned with the moon-crescent — the dwelling-place of supreme nectar.

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 15

hrīṃ‍kāramēva tava nāma tadēva rūpaṃ
tvannāma durlabhamiha tripurē gṛṇanti ।
tvattējasā pariṇataṃ viyadādibhūtaṃ
saukhyaṃ tanōti sarasīruhasambhavādēḥ ॥ 15 ॥

O Tripurā — Hrīṃ alone is your name; that alone is your form. In this [world], those who cannot [find any other way] chant your unattainable name as Tripura. Through your radiance, the universe beginning from the sky has evolved — and so it is chanted as your name.

♪ CHANTING NOW

Verse 16

hrīṃ‍kāratrayasampuṭēna mahatā mantrēṇa sandīpitaṃ
stōtraṃ yaḥ prativāsaraṃ tava purō mātarjapēnmantravit ।
tasya kṣōṇibhujō bhavanti vaśagā lakṣmīśchirasthāyinī
vāṇī nirmalasūktibhārabhāritā jāgarti dīrghaṃ vayaḥ ॥ 16 ॥

This hymn — ignited by the great mantra of three Hrīṃkāras combined — whoever recites it daily before you, O mother, with the knowledge of mantra — he becomes one whose speech is Sarasvatī herself — and reaches the state of the most fortunate. This is the phalaśruti of the Kalyāṇa Vṛṣṭi Stavam.
