About this stotra
The Gauri Dasakam is a ten-verse hymn attributed to Ādi Śaṅkarācārya in praise of Goddess Gauri, the radiant golden-hued form of Parvati. Each verse concludes with the beautiful refrain gaurīm ambām amburuhākṣīm aham īḍe — "I praise Gauri, the Mother with lotus eyes" — creating a meditative rhythm throughout the composition.
The hymn presents the Goddess in her transcendent and immanent aspects: she who playfully creates, sustains, and dissolves the cosmos, yet is sought within by yogis absorbed in pratyahara, dhyana, and samadhi. She is described as the embodiment of satya-jñāna-ānanda (truth, knowledge, and bliss), adorned by the crescent moon of Lord Shiva, and worshipped even by Indra and the celestials. The verses weave together her cosmic power, her tender maternal nature, and her identity as the supreme reality itself.

She who has established, by divine sport (līlā), all the worlds that had been dissolved, and who is sought inwardly for a long time by yogīs who have transcended the world — blazing with the radiance of a line of young suns — may that Golden One (Gaurī) protect us.
