About this stotra
Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotram means: Hymn in praise of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva is one of the principal deities in Hinduism, known as the destroyer and transformer within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity that includes Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. He is revered as the supreme being who creates, protects, and transforms the universe. The Jyotirlingas are sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, each representing a different manifestation of his divine presence.
This stotram praises twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, each located in different parts of India, and highlights their significance and the blessings they bestow upon devotees. The first verse describes the Somnath Jyotirlinga in Saurashtra, emphasizing its beauty and the grace it bestows upon devotees. The second verse refers to the Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga at Srisailam, depicting it as a refuge and a bridge across the ocean of worldly existence. The third verse praises the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain, known for granting liberation and protection from untimely death. The fourth verse venerates the Kedarnath Jyotirlinga, situated amidst the Himalayas, and revered by sages, gods, and celestial beings. The fifth verse describes the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga in Ellora, highlighting its grandeur and the benevolent nature of Lord Shiva, who is worshipped there. The stotram serves as a devotional recitation to seek Lord Shiva's blessings, protection, and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
